Iranian-born, New York based artist Bahar Behbahani contributed this Fresh VUE featuring Iranian artist Pooya Aryanpour. Behbahani spent a month with Aryanpour in his studio.
Pooya Aryanpour, born in Tehran in 1971, did not attend elementary school and studied at home, according to the wishes of his father (Amir Hossein Aryanpour, a pioneer of sociology in Iran). In 1992, Aryanpour graduated from fine art school in Tehran after achieving both a BA and an MA in painting. A lecturer at the Faculty of Art, Azad University, Tehran, since 1997, Aryanpour has shown his work in numerous exhibitions in Iran and around the world.
This is a pictorial journal recorded inside Aryanpour’s studio in Tehran, where he is working on paintings and installations for his solo show in May 2014. The exhibition will include a series of triptychs, circle-shaped canvases and a large-scale mirrored installation.
In his statement, Aryanpour writes, “…I consider myself incomplete, for I believe I have blurred vision, seeing neither the balance nor the mathematical calculations. Again I resort to whatever is surrounding me to discover within the geometry of life all the promises of justice.”
