Abigail DeVille’s Baltimore
New York-based artist Abigail DeVille created Only When It’s Dark Enough Can You See The Stars at the intersection of art, architecture, and history. Transforming Baltimore’s historic Peale Museum with installations and performances, her work immerses visitors in a dense space and time continuum, excavating the intertwined, fraught histories of the building and the city. Local author Bret McCabe writes a richly nuanced review of DeVille’s masterpiece for BMore Art. Read it HERE.
The Contemporary, a Baltimore museum that’s been operating since 2011 without a building, commissioned the project that takes over the first edifice in the Western Hemisphere designed as a museum. Locale preservationists envision restoring the historic landmark to create the Peale Center.
