What were you up to when you were 26 years old? At that age, straight out of university, Sofia Bastidas began creating international opportunities for her artist friends. Now in its second year, Dwelling Projects is an annual traveling residency that supports making, presentating and disseminating contemporary art. The new program has already given emerging South Florida artists the chance to spend time in South America and Puerto Rico to meet local artists, show their work and create new projects.
This summer, Studio 259 in Miami featured Greisy Lora in her first solo show curated by Bastidas. In her quirky art, Lora captures the world inside her head with scribbles and abstractions composed on her sewing machine. Lora’s stitched characters appear in dreamlike scenarios that transfix and delight the viewer. Lora is one of the lucky artists completing a 3 week residency in San Juan, as part of Dwelling Projects 2014 residency program To Puerto Rico and Back!
