Crossing back through five time zones from Venice to New York, Fresh Art International dropped in on a few art fairs during Frieze Week. Levels of engagement varied inside the fair’s trademark tent on Randall’s Island. Many passively cruised the booths to see what’s hot. But more than a few opted to participate in featured works. Gavin Brown’s Enterprise hired volunteers for $20 to paint 8-inch diameter black dots on canvas to create Jonathan Horowitz‘s 7 groupings of 100 dots. Worn-out art enthusiasts were longing to recline on works by Urs Fischer and Nicole Wermers. Some visitors elected to get pummeled in one of Korakrit Arunanondchai‘s paint-splattered massage chairs. And anyone starting to feel a chill could visit Pia Camil for one of her complimentary ponchos, and become a roving canvas.
